What is creatine monohydrate?

Creatine is a naturally-occurring compound found in muscle cells. It is produced by our bodies and found in certain protein-rich foods, such as red meat and fish.

Creatine supplementation is recommended to boost our energy stores during high-intensity activities. Our body’s main source of energy is a compound called adenosine tri-phosphate – or ATP for short. ATP can be used by our muscles very rapidly, but only for several seconds. Consuming higher levels of creatine can boost the amount of ATP available during a workout.

What are the benefits of creatine monohydrate?

Creatine is one of the most popular and most researched supplements in the sports nutrition industry. Numerous studies have linked creatine with increased nitrogen retention, protein accumulation in muscles, muscle recovery, muscle gain, strength and athletic performance. It has been shown to boost explosive energy levels, making it ideal for bodybuilders, powerlifters, sprinters and other high-intensity activities, including rugby, football and basketball.

Who should take creatine monohydrate?

Creatine monohydrate is suitable for anyone who takes part in high-intensity activities with an aim to increase performance.

Consuming optimum levels of creatine through food alone may not be practical for most people. A typical portion of raw meat or fish provides only 1g of creatine. And since creatine is sensitive to heat, the actual ingested intake is likely to be far less as most of the creatine is destroyed during cooking.

Supplementing a diet with creatine is relatively easy. Our creatine monohydrate is a 100% pure, micronized powder that is easily mixed with water or juice, or added to a protein shake.

What makes this brand of creatine monohydrate so good?

Our creatine is a premium quality, UK-manufactured 100% pure creatine monohydrate powder. It is a ‘200 mesh’ micronized powder, which ensures easy mixing and fast absorption by the body.

At Ksh 460 per 100g (equivalent to 20 days’ intake), we offer the lowest-price premium quality creatine in the market. Our creatine is GM-free and is suitable for vegetarian, vegan, halal and kosher diets.

Loading and Maintenance

Creatine supplementation is sometimes separated into two phases: an initial ‘loading’ phase followed by a ‘maintenance’ phase. Suggested guidelines for following a loading approach are:

Loading phase: 4 x 5g servings taken throughout the day for 5-7 days
Maintenance phase: 1 x 5g serving per day

Why don’t you sell flavoured creatine monohydrate?

We are dedicated to providing the lowest cost, premium quality supplements. Flavoured creatine monohydrate typically costs 50-60% more than unflavoured creatine, which has little or no taste. Furthermore, creatine monohydrate is usually added to a pre- or post-workout protein shake, which is often flavoured.

Although the majority of our customers prefer the better value unflavoured creatine, we may introduce flavoured options in the future. If there are flavours that you would like, please get in touch to let us know.

Is this creatine monohydrate ‘micronized’?

Yes. This is a ‘200 mesh’, micronized creatine monohydrate powder.

How does this creatine compare to Creapure®?

Creapure® is the trademark name for creatine monohydrate manufactured by AlzChem in Germany. It is marketed and renowned as an extremely high purity (99.99%) creatine monohydrate. The Creapure® trademark can be used by supplements manufacturers that source their creatine monohydrate from AlzChem.

Back in the mid-1990s, when Creapure® came on the scene, there were lots of creatine products with questionable quality and purity. Creapure® stood out as a trusted source of creatine. Twenty years later, while sub-standard products do exist in the industry, there are many manufacturers producing high-quality, high-purity creatine monohydrate.

Creapure® products are typically 60-70% more expensive than non-Creapure® ultra-pure creatine monohydrate. This price premium is partly due to the higher creatine purity, but mostly due to the cost of using a trademarked ingredient.

Our premium quality creatine monohydrate has a purity of 99.9% and offers incredible value-for-money. We strive to provide the lowest cost, premium quality supplements. For most customers, the negligible increase in purity does not justify the substantial price premium.

Do I need to ‘load’ creatine monohydrate?

‘Loading’ creatine monohydrate refers to a two-phased approach to creatine supplementation: an initial higher-dose ‘loading’ phase followed by a standard-dose ‘maintenance’ phase. The rationale for this approach is that the loading phase allows your muscles to become fully ‘saturated’ with creatine (technically, creatine phosphate); the subsequent maintenance phase maintains your creatine levels.

Research has shown that creatine loading is not a requirement. It may take slightly longer for your muscles to become saturated, although this is often debated. However, if you prefer to run a loading phase, we suggest the following guidelines:

Loading phase: 4 x 5g servings taken throughout the day for 5-7 days
Maintenance phase: 1 x 5g serving per day

Do I need to ‘cycle’ creatine monohydrate?

‘Cycling’ creatine monohydrate refers to taking the supplement for several weeks, followed by a one- to two-week break, before resuming creatine supplementation and starting the cycle again.

Studies have shown little evidence that cycling creatine supplementation produces better results than taking it continuously. However, if you prefer to cycle your intake, we recommend taking creatine for 4-6 weeks followed by a break of 1-2 weeks.

When is the best time to take creatine monohydrate?

There are lots of debates about the optimum time to take creatine. Recent studies have shown that timing makes little difference. Creatine is most effective after it has been ‘accumulated’ and your muscles are ‘saturated’, therefore, the timing of creatine intake is unlikely to have a major impact on performance.

We recommend taking it with your pre- or post-workout shake. On non-training days, take it at approximately the same time as on training days.

Is creatine monohydrate suitable for vegetarians and vegans?

Yes. Our creatine monohydrate is suitable both for vegetarians and for vegans.
